Gabriele D’Annunzio and Oscar Wilde: the cult of form

Both are two aesthetes who are part of aestheticism and Decadentism.
They go on searching for pleasure in a material sense, and their works “The portrait of Dorian Gray” by Wilde and “Il Piacere” by D ‘Annunzio are almost autobiographical.
The characters of Dorian and Andrea Sperelli are very similar.
They are two aristocratic poets (in fact Wilde is a “dandy “), however, he loves giving importance to clothing, appearance, frequented places, love for beautiful women and handsome boys.
D’Annunzio enjoyed a series of privileges due to the  his fame in the age in which he lived because he lived in luxurious houses, he squandered his money in their style both focus on the detailed description of the aromas, sounds, sensations, objects and states of mind.

Wilde lived his whole life searching for its meaning and at the same time trying to catch the joys of life itself.
Because of his sexual preferences not understood at the time he was forced to hide his passions and after detention to take the path of exile from his country.
Unlike D’Annunzio, his life was a descending parable, the last few years left to live, he spent himself in hardship and in constant need of money.
They love art as they both accept the theory of “the art pour l ‘art” and also want their own life to become a work of art.

New techology

The scientific discoveries over the years have always pushed humanity towards an ever-increasing innovation, up to the present condition provided that technology is used by everyone in various ways. In recent years, technology has become a way of expressing our personality, the advent of “social media” has had a very strong impact on young people who are not educated in this new lifestyle and use these new media in the most wrong possible. This has led to the emergence of phenomena such as “sexting” cyberbullying, which in no way benefit the life of a teenager who in some cases can even lead to suicide.

But the technology itself is not bad, I would never stop this change even if I find this new medium very cold. In fact, it allows you to do countless actions with great speed, for example on Istagram there are various pages that promote art cinema and thought, although unfortunately the majority of Istagram users upload personal content because people aspire to become like Hollywood stars and they hide in Pirandellian masks where more importance is given to appearing than to being.

On Istagram you publish only the well-made photos and this creates a beautiful virtual world where everyone is perfect and you try to be like them not understanding that this will be impossible. For me everyone should live his illusion, if people like to create avatars of oneself is fine, the important is that these people realize this fiction and that they do not promote thoughts full of anger, violence and ignorance. But why do I use social media? the reasons that lead me to the use of social media are the following: keep photos like, remember to create a family album, get inspiration for drawings, discuss movies with other people or laugh through concise and amusing “memes”. Then I think it also serves to not feel out of the rest of the world, I have Istagram to make it feel that I exist to be part of the group, but I am aware of this, and I would never cry for stupid things like not accessing Istagram for a day.

The Canterville Ghost

Terrible twins

The novel tells the story of an American family that according to the medal of the time, buys a castle in the UK and goes there to live. This castle is haunted by the ghost of Lord Simon who has been damned for killing his wife and who can be freed from spell only if a pure soul feels pity and weeps for him. The family consists of, father, mother and 4 children (Washington, Virginia and the two twins). The story tells how immediately an atmosphere of prank and tension is created by jokes of various kinds. But one evening the twins make a terrible joke to the ghost who, scared, locks himself in a room for two weeks and stays there until his older sister goes to talk to him. The sister hearing the true story of the ghost cries for him and in so doing Sir Simon is forgiven and given freedom. I liked the book very much the mysterious atmospheres but also a bit amusing they are better integrated, the characters are well characterized and the intertwining of the story that is created between the ghost and the girl and very beautiful interesting. The ending, then, is very mysterious and is perfectly suited to a ghost story.

the blood stain

From this story one senses the romantic spirit in the author: Oscar Wilde, most likely influenced by the Irish poetess mother with thoughts of Byronic origin. Then, however, the author develops his work in the decadent vein that in the 1800s was opposed to positivist thought. This thought was characterized by a trust in science, in fact it was in the period of the industrial revolution that brought people of the time to trust in science and at the same time to a discomfort in everyday life. This in fact leads to the birth of many currents of thought opposed to positivism such as the nihilism of Nietzsche or the mysticism of Shopenhauer, to the vitalism of D’Annunzio. Among these currents opposed to positivism there was also aestheticism, a literary form characterized by the constant search for beauty. the greatest exponent of this thought was precisely Oscar Wilde, in fact in works such as the portrait of Dorian gray this concept is very pronounced and taken to the extreme where the protagonist deceives old age by aging a painting in its place.

As Oscar Wilde stated:  “I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”

A day at the ESA

The visit to the europa ESA research center was very interesting, in addition to the visit of the place they also made us do experiments and through these they made us understand that space research is very useful to solve terrestrial problems, the particular deals with the satellites that run around the earth. the most intresting thing that i learn, was when scientis explained to us that satellite activity can control the movement of sea current and monitorng climating changes impacts on coastal shore.

My Dream

I hear many phrases like: always follow your dreams or want is power but they have never touched me in the depths. I don’t want anything of material, the work for me is only a means, I don’t care what it is, because my dream is to find a stable job that allows me to travel and continue to study in fact for me The most important values are history (memory), reason (philosophy) art (fantasy), maybe I could write a book paint a picture, in my hobby I would like to deal with art, and then always want to discover new mysteries because I have always been dedicated to the unknown. My greatest desire is to solve the greatest mystery, to find the infinite, but not only using reason, but also feeling like a wave that tries to touch the moon, and in his failure he will find his answer.
