ITALIAN EMIGRATION IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – by Dario Latini –

INTRODUCTION

Talking about an impressive phenomenon such as immigration from Europe and especially from Italy to the United States of America between the end of ‘800 and the first post-war period is not easy.
So I thought to select the images that in my mind tell the phenomenon, such as: photos of poor peasant families in southern Italy, the landing and controls on Ellis Island, the emergence of neighborhoods like ” Little Italy “, characters that for good or ill have become famous in America.
Finally I created a soundtrack by playing on each slide a song inspired by the inserted images salient moments of this.
Good vision!

Giuseppe Lavorato – Personal Elaboration

The reason that prompted me to deal with this theme in the blog is the curiosity generated from my grandfather’s words on immigration.

He always said that immigration is an advantage, in the case of Riace immigration was a turning point because this small village was depopulated and actually schools had been closed and there was no work, but with the arrival of migrants (children, women and refugees) the schools were reopened and so Riace passed from being a ghost town to be repopulated.

According to my grandfather, the real problem is that Italy does not follow the example of Riace.

He thinks that Riace welcomes migrants who come from poor countries where there is war, they are just trying to escape from death.

Immigration

We are going to embrace our first topic, which is about immigration: We watched a video in classroom about the immigrants who sailed from Europe towards the New World.

This video provided us with useful elements to better understand the historical phenomenon of migration.

Therefore some students will show the way  they chose to develop their own topic according to their personal experience and sensitivity.

Welcome Guys

Cari Studenti,

Why did I choose this quote from Shakespeare?

C’mon then, let’s go through this exciting experience and good luck everybody.
