
Plot
David was born in 1820, his father died before he was born. He lived happily with his mother and Miss Peggotty, the housekeeper.When he was 7 years old his mother met Mr Murdstone and they married. Mr Murdstone was cruel to David and his sister Miss Murdstone came to live with them, they were bad with David.
One day he hit David with a wooden stick, to the point that David bit Mr Murdstone hand. He sent David to a college where he met two boys, Traddles and Steerforth that became his friends. The headmaster was hard and cruel too. While David was in the college his mother died.
David came back home and Mr Murdstone sent him to London, to work in a factory. Miss Pegotty married Mr Barkis, a fisherman and they lived in Yourmouth. One day David decided to escape from the factory and he went to Dover, where his aunt Betsy lived. She took David with her and she payed David’s lessons and his room in Canterbury.
In Canterbury David met Agnes, he was living with her and her father. When David and his friend Steerforth went to Pegotty’s house, Steerforth seduced Emily, her nephew, while she was engaged with Cam. Emily and Steerforth run away and Cam and Pegotty started to search Emily.
David became a lawyer and he went to work to Mr Spenlow, where he met his daughter Dora and he fell in love with her.
Dora’s housekeeper was Miss Murdstone. Mr Spenlow fired David because Miss Murdstone showed him the love letters that David wrote to Dora, but the next night he died.
Dora married David, but she was fragile and she got sick and died. David started to see Agnes again, she told him that she have always been in love with him, so they married and had four children.
The author
Charles Dickens was born in England on the 7th of February 1812. When he was 12 years old his father went to prison.

He left school and went to work in a factory. He workerd many hours in terrible conditions. In 1831 he became a newspaper reporter and he started writing short stories. A lot of people bought the magazines to read his stories.
In 1836 he wrote his first novel “The Pickwick Papers” and it was a big success. He married Caterine Hogartin in 1836 and they had 10 children.
He met many people in his life and he wrote about many of them in his novels. His books are about poverty and social problems. He wrote fourteen major novels during the industrial revolution and he became famous. He died whe he was 58 years old.
Historical Context
When Dickens wrote his novel was the period of the second industrial revolution

There were many scientific discoveries and inventions. There was a big development of railways and shipbuilding with steel.
Many weapons were built and they were stronger than the old ones.
Petroleum was extracted first in 1859 and there were many deposites in Texas. The ships started to use petroleum and fuel.
In this period electric and chemical industries were born. Dinamite was invented by Alfred Nobel in 1867. In this period were produced many medications like aspirin and also anesthetics to reduce pain.
My opinion
For me this book is very beautiful because it also talks about the children’s work in the factories and I think that this is wrong because children mustn’t work, and that they should go to school because it’s their right.

















AUTHOR: Jules Verne. Jules Verne was born in 1829 in France. His father was angry when he began to write book. Before to do write ” Around the world in 80 days” he wrote another books. He died in 1905 in France.
