Phileas Fogg, an eccentric English gentleman, bets with the members of
his club that he will be able to travel around the world in just eighty days,
committing his entire capital.
Phileas Fogg is accompanied on this journey by Passepartout, his servant
hired the day before departure.
Several unexpected events hampered the adventure, starting with the
butler who got drunk and lost his tickets, ending with the agent Fix who
supervised and followed the expedition convinced that he had recognized Fogg as
an infamous adventurer and famous international thief.
The longest stop for Fogg is the one in India, where he decides, in
fact, helped by Passepartout, to save Mrs. Auda from an unjust death, which
will later become his wife.
After going unforeseen Fogg manages to reach Liverpool where, however,
he is arrested by Fix, but fortunately the inspector realizes the error and
frees the gentleman.
After various mishaps and setbacks, Fogg eventually rents an entire ship
to arrive in time in London, but arrives on the eighty-first day and the bet
seems lost.
All of a sudden his gaze falls on the newspaper and he realizes that the
date is not the one he believed, because traveling always towards the East he
earned a day, and therefore he returned to London within the term set by the
bet.
Now he only has a few minutes left to reach the club in time, where he
will make his triumphant entry just in time to collect the prize, in front of
the stunned members who were preparing to toast his defeat.
Fogg won his bet and resumes his monotonous life and marries Ms. Auda,
is proud of himself and is the happiest man on Earth.
The author Oscar Wilde publishes his story “The Canterville Ghost” in 1887 and it can be connected to Romanticism, a historical, literary and cultural movement that was applied in the nineteenth century.
This book talks about the events in an English countryide that confronts the family when they go to live in the Canterville Chase, a house haunted by a ghost Sir Simon that in 1584 killed his wife. There is a stain of blood impossible to remove from the living room. Every night the ghost came to disturb the family but nobody was afraid of him, so one day the ghost tell his sad story to daughter Virginia who decided to help him and go to the underworld so the ghost was buried forever. Virginia returns with a chest full of jewels given by the ghost to thank her. So she decided that on her wedding day se will wear jewels and tell about his adventure in the underworld!
The protagonist is a ghost Sir Simon, Hiram and Lucrezia Otis are two parents pf four children: Washington Otis, the oldest, the 15 years old Virginia and the twins. Mrs Umney, the housekeeper and Cecil, the future husband of Virginia.
My Opinion!
For me this book is good for adults, with light and playful plot and even for smaller ones interested in horror stories. I was very impressed by the tranquility of the family when the ghost frightened them, and the sensitivity of daughter Virginia when helps the ghost.

Oliver Twist is a story written by Charles Dickens.
This story talk about an orphan, who was born in a workhouse before the died of his mother. He lived for 9 years in this orribile place where boys and girls had to work for the state, and they were grown only by a small quantity of porridge. Oliver, then have asked for some porridge, he became a worker for Mr soweberry, who produced coffins.
But, then various bad words by an unfriendly boy, who had to teach Oliver to produce coffins, on Oliver’s mother, Olive escape in London. Here he meet Dodger, a new friend who make know Fagin( a cruel man ) to Oliver. They were thief and during a robbery, Oliver is taken by the police. However Fagin does not give up and in order to fear of the police, he toke Oliver and this couldn’t never escape by those cruel man. During a rapine Oliver was kicked by a pistol and the next morning he was to a beautiful woman with blond hair and blue eyes called Rose Mayle with her aunt. Oliver studied and he was happy. But a women called Nancy worked with Fagin and another criminal as Sikes and Monks. She said to Rose and Mr Brownlow Oliver is in danger. But to this she died killed by Sikes. All the criminal died or go in prison and Oliver is happy with a new family and a new brother: Monks ( the criminal) who made this bad actions to don’t know this.
From 1700 to 1800 all children had to work to give money to their families and many children met cruel man during their road of hope. In Great Britain, during this period of industry revolution, children couldn’t go to school and the school was free only on 1891.
This is a true story of this poor people during the industry revolution. This story is very beautiful because it teaches us the strong life of the past but also of our days in other countries which use this children to work because the govern is absent and the hope of money is big. My favourite character is Oliver Twist because he show us the difficult life and he show us to don’t give up when we want be happy.

Oliver was born in a “work house” in the early 1800s. His mother died soon after giving birth and the child was sent to an orphanage run by priests until he was 8 years old. At this point his tutors decide that the time has come for him to return to work, but here Oliver suffers from hunger and one evening commits “the unforgivable” mistake of asking for another food ration. The priests decide to send him to Mr. Sowberry. Even here Oliver is treated so badly that he decides to go in London.
Almost arrived in the city, the boy, exhausted from the journey, meets Jack Dawkins who offers him food and promises him lodging. Oliver knows Fagin like that, a man who runs a gang of petty thieves and starts him like a thief. Oliver on the first attempt is accused (unjustly) of having stolen from Mr. Brownlow. Oliver is taken home by Brownlow who takes care of him and puts him back to health. At this point, Monks, wants Oliver to return to the gang of thieves and order Bill Sikes and his lover Nancy to go get the boy. Oliver is kidnapped and the monks force him to work for him as a thief; the first blow to Mr. Brownlow’s home ends badly: Oliver is wounded by a gunshot wound and is cared for by Mrs. Maylie and her niece Rose. Fagin, with the help of Monks, tries to recover the boy, but Nancy warns Rose from the plan. Sikes, having discovered Nancy’s betrayal, kills her. After this, Oliver discovers that Monks is his half brother. Fagin was arrested and dies a few days later. Oliver is adopted by Mr. Brownlow. The monks must agree to share his father’s legacy with Oliver, but he will squander this money and return to the world of bad reputation
My opeanion:
This Book is related to child exploitation. these children They are less than 14 years old, they should go to school, play, have time to rest, and instead they work: in the fields, in the dumps, on the road, wherever there are opportunities to earn something to help them survive themselves and their families. Some manage to find time to attend school, but most have never set foot in a classroom, and it is likely that they will never do it.Unless someone helps them.
Oliver Twist is one of Charles Dickens’most famous novels. Published in 1837, it was the first English novel to deal with social issues interpreted by a boy. In his novel, the author denounces the evils of Victorian society: child exploitation, poverty and crime.
Oliver is an orphan boy. At the age of 9 he went to work in a workhouse with other orphans like him. Being new, Oliver is mistreated and misunderstoodby his classmates. One day Mr. Sowerberry goes to find an orphan to take with him to help him with his grave digger job, and takes Oliver. The boy, also being exploited here, decides to flee to London where he meets Jack Dawkins, a boy he steals for a living. Jack takes him to his boss: Fagin, a man who used to collect poor street kids and teach them how to steal, in fact, in the shack where he lives, there are other poor kids like him. Fagin also teaches Oliver to steal. Initially, the boy meant itas a game and did not take it very seriously. During a date with the other boys, Oliver realizes that it’s not a game, so he decides to run away, but passers-by mistake him for one of the thieves.
Luckily for him, Mr. Brownlow, a wealthy English man of good heart, see severy thing from the window of the library, and takes the boy into custody. Oliver is loved in this house, but during an outing to do Mr. Brownlow a favor, Nancy (a follower of Fagin) pretends to be his sister and stages that he had escaped from home. Passers-by believe it and Nancy brings Oliver back from Fagin. One night while Fagin and his friend Toby were going to steal from a house taking Oliver with them to keep an eye on him, Oliver sees Mr Brownlow on the street and starts screaming to get himself saved, so Fagin shoots him and injures him on one shoulder. Fagin takes him back to the house of the dying thieves, and for fear that he might talk to someone, he decides to kill him by drowning him in ariver as soon as he has recovered.
Nancy, repentant of what she did, confides everything to Mr. Brownlow who warns the police that she puts a bounty on him. Fagin suspecting Nancy orders Jack to follow her and discovered the betrayal kills her. The crowd once they know about the bounty on Fagin goes looking for him and discovers where he lives. The house is surrounded and the boys rebelled against Fagin and threw him into the crowd. Fagin dies. Among the crowd is also Mr Brownlow, who takes Oliver with him to his home to finally live a peaceful life with people who love him and care for him. With this novel Dickens denounces the method of education of poor children in orphanages who are exploited to perform hard work and without compensation. Many poor children without education are forced to take bad roads. Finally, it denounces the system of wealthy British families that offered charity to the poor to gain admiration in society.
Oliver represents a young man who rebels against abuse and injustice and who, by remaining anchored in sound moral and religious principles, succeeds in improving his condition with his stubbornness.
The incredible thing is that unfortunately there are still cases of child exploitation in developing countries, particularly in Asia, Eastern Europe and South America. From this novel were also taken films and musicals famous through out the world.
In January 2019, I was lucky enough tobe able to participate in the musical freely based on the original novel, which was staged by my director and acting teacher. A fantastic and very funny experience. The show was a success and next year it will be on stage for at least 2 months. The show is so successful that it will be presented at major theater competitions. Let’s hope we come out on top!
One week ago, on the 14th of March, me and my class, with our maths and english teachers, went to the ESA site and it was very beautiful.
I was very happy because it was the first step of my dream and I was excited.
The morning we took the bus to go at the ESA site and we visited it.
Th most beautiful room that we visited was the dark room with the model of the world. It was wonderful.
I was very relaxed, in that moment I didn’t remember any of my thoughts and I was very happy.
Another room that I loved was the room where we did some experiments. We did an experiment with water; we built a home suitable for the moon and we simulated a landing.
I had a lot of fun because I think that, very likely, this will be my future, and this was only the beginning.
In the first room we were divided in teams and we played: we had to search craters and asteroids inside the pictures that the researchers showed us.
In the second room we built the Vega rocket and it was fantastic.
After that we went in the dark room where we saw a plastic of Lazio region. Then we saw some researchers that shooted some rockets and it was impressive.
It was a fantastic experience and I’m very happy because we also have teachers that help their students to realize their dreams.
Last week me and my class went to the ESA that it means is: European Space Agency. ESA deals with the european space programs and check the earth, the solar system and the universe.
When we arrived they gave us the ESA shirt, hat and the passaport that they stamped after all activities .During the day we have participated many activities as: to find an asteroid in the map , to build a central in the moon ,to build a Vega that is a rocket divided in 4 part, so in the activities they divided us in 4 groups each groups build a different part of Vega and then we assembled the parts . In the afternoon after the activities they launched some rocket one of plastic and one real rocket that didn’t start at the first attempt.
In this photo ESA managers are trying to launch a rocket.
I think that was a funny and educational day and that it was a beautiful experience that not everyone can live.
